We had a great experience. The place is non-typical but quite comfortable and cozy. The location is well connected to all the major Amsterdam landmarks. The owners are really nice and welcoming people who did their best to make our stay even greater. Breakfast was abundant and fresh. I have no problems in recommending this b&b to anyone who wants to see Amsterdam from a quiet and beautiful location and in a different mode!

For us (a family with small children traveling by car) the single most positive feature was the ability to park nearby (practically next door) safely and economically. This is something generally very difficult in central Amsterdam and we really appreciated it.
Another positive surprise was the location. Beforehand (on the map) it looked somewhat remote, but once on site the location turned out to be perfect. The neighborhood is clean, safe and very peaceful while still offering basic services such as restaurants and cafés. And the city center is easily and quite quickly accessible by nearby tram and bus lines.
The house boat itself was exactly as cozy and comfortable as we expected by previous reviews. The same can be said of our hosts Corine and Casper, whose kindness, helpfulness and dedication couldn´t have been better.
As reflected by the score, and expected by previous reviews and comments, the major problem on Alhena is the small and cramped toilet / bathroom -combination, which I see very difficult to improve given the limitations set by the boat itself. For a short stay (like ours) it doesn´t really matter (if you´re prepared) but a longer stay, especially with children and more people, could get uncomfortable.
Another issue with small children is the hazard of falling off the boat. This is an issue elsewhere in Amsterdam too, including many streets and public places.
