Important Local Information – Torcross Sea Defence Works Guests considering a stay should be aware that the Environment Agency is undertaking a significant programme of sea defence improvements at Torcross. These important works are designed to help protect the village and coastline for the future. Preparatory works are expected to begin from September 2026, with the Tank car park being used as the contractor’s compound and therefore unavailable for public parking. Subject to the necessary final approvals, construction of the new rock armour is expected to begin from around mid-October 2026, continuing through the autumn and winter, with further works around the car park and slipway planned for spring 2027. During this period there may be some construction activity, noise and temporary changes to beach access in the immediate Torcross area. The public footpath around the contractor compound is expected to remain accessible, although access to parts of the beach may vary as the works progress. Torcross, Slapton Sands and the wider South Hams remain very much open to visitors, and the works form part of an important long-term project to safeguard this very special stretch of coastline.
