Facebook speed course part 3: Many ‘Likes’ on your Timeline

B&B on Facebook

The more ‘Likes’, the more prominent the updates on your page in the Facebook news overview.

Of course you want the messages you place on your Facebook page, your ‘Status updates’, to be placed high in the news overview of your fans for as long as possible. And that as many people as possible read the messages on your timeline and click ‘like’.  This is only possible if your messages are interesting or in other words: relevant for your followers.

What is the Facebook news overview?
The news overview is the first thing you see when you log in to Facebook. Here, all status updates, photos and comments of your friends and favourites are collected. This way, people who like your page, your ‘fans’, see your updates appear in their news overview.

Facebook messages: short and visual
What you want, of course, is that a new update remains high in the news overview of your fans for as long as possible. Therefore it is crucial that your message is relevant for your fans. The following applies to Facebook: the more people like your message, read it, respond to it and share it with others, the longer your message remains high in the news overview. Successful messages are:

  • Short: messages of 100 to 250 characters are liked, shared and commented on 60 percent more often.
  • Visual: photo albums, photos and videos draw resp. 180, 120 and 100 percent more people. Therefore, Facebook standardly places photos and videos higher in the news overview.
  • Appealing: ask a question, invent a contest or create a poll and invite people to respond to it. The more response the better.
  • Relevant: place messages that are truly useful for your followers, such as an exclusive news item about your bed & breakfast, a competition, or a special promotion just for your Facebook fans. . This will certainly result into ‘Likes’ en ‘shares’.
  • Optimised: Based on the statistics in the administration field at the top of your page you can find out when you reach the most people. It is smart to post your messages at those times.

When you are lucky, your fans will share your messages with their friends. This enlarges the reach of your Facebook page even more. In part 4 of this speed course you can read how to expand your network and collect more fans. PS: Are you a fan of the Facebook page of Bedandbreakfast.eu yet?
