UPDATE 10/22/24: Extension for the CIN for Short-Term Rentals to January 1, 2025
Good news for all B&B owners! On October 22, 2024, the Italian Ministry of Tourism announced that the deadline to obtain the National Identification Code (CIN) has been extended to January 1, 2025. This means you now have more time to ensure your property is compliant with short-term rental regulations. This extension offers a great opportunity to go through the process at a more relaxed pace. If you haven’t applied for your CIN yet, we recommend starting as soon as possible to avoid any last-minute issues. You’ll find a complete guide on how to obtain it below!
What is CIN, and who must apply for it?
CIN stands for National Identification Code and is assigned by the Italian Ministry of Tourism. It will form a national database of all registered tourism rentals in Italy. To apply for a CIN number, the owner or manager of the accommodation must submit an online application to the Italian government. This National Identification Code must be requested for all tourist accommodations.
How do you obtain the CIN?
As an accommodation owner, you can complete an online registration via the Ministry of Tourism’s website. You will need your personal information and details about your accommodation. The registration process is straightforward, but it is essential to ensure that all data is accurately filled out and updated. This helps avoid potential fines. We recommend completing the application on a computer or laptop to ensure a smooth application process.
When must the CIN number be filled out?
The Italian government allows accommodations 60 days (from the publication date of the 2nd September 2024) to get their information in order. Penalties may follow if you have not filled out the number by 2nd November 2024. However, there are some exceptions to keep in mind:
- If you already have a Regional Identification Number or a Provincial Identification Number before 2nd November 2024, you will have an additional 60 days to apply for a CIN number through the Ministry of Tourism.
- If you receive the Regional Identification Number or the Provincial Identification Number after the deadline of 2nd November 2024, you have 30 days after receiving the regional or provincial code to apply for a CIN number.
- If your accommodation is located in a region with a Regional Identification Number or Provincial Identification Number, but it does not apply to your type of accommodation, apply for the CIN number as soon as possible. The deadline is 2nd November 2024.
- If your accommodation is in a region without a Regional Identification Number or Provincial Identification Number, you must apply for the CIN number as soon as possible. The deadline for these accommodations is 2nd November 2024.
- If your accommodation is in a region where the Regional Identification Number or Provincial Identification Number applies, but you have not received this code in time, you have 10 days after receiving this number to apply for a CIN number.
If you do not apply for and fill out the CIN number by the deadline applicable to your situation, penalties may follow.
Displaying the CIN number
Once you receive the CIN number from the Ministry of Tourism, you must enter it in your online listing on Bedandbreakfast.eu. If your accommodation is listed on multiple platforms, it’s important to enter the number there as well as soon as possible. Additionally, it is mandatory to display the CIN number clearly on the exterior of the property, on your website, and in communications with customers and local authorities. Therefore, ensure that you enter the CIN number on Bedandbreakfast.eu as soon as possible to make sure your accommodation remains searchable after 2nd November. You can enter the CIN on Bedandbreakfast.eu via the contact page in the “Registration Number” field.
