Nature in Finland

Finland has tens of thousands of lakes and islands and it is one of the most forestry countries of Europe. In the South are many dense, hilly pine forests, interlaced with lakes. Especially the island regions like the Ålands islands and the Turku archipelago are beautiful sites to visit. Up North, the nature is very rough and savage. Here you find the largest national park in Finland: The icy Lemmenjoki, named after the river that runs straight through it. In northernmost part of the country you can watch the Northern lights during winter, and in the summer period, from June to mid-July you can see the midnight sun. 

Sports and recreation in Finland 

It is not surprising that Finland is a water sports paradise. But you can also take beautiful hikes and cycle tours, especially in the South. Here you find many nature reserves such as Seit Seminen near Ikaalinen and Ylöjärvi. This park has the best maintained piece of primary forest of South-Finland. The archipelago in the South-West is a top destination for cyclists. There is a long cycling route, the Archipelago Trail, which leads along towns such as Kaarina, Parainen, Naantali and Raisio. Beloved winter sports destinations are Kuusamo and Ruka. Catching your breath after a day of exertion? Do as the Finnish do, and retire into the sauna, you can find them everywhere.
